Ok, so currently sat in Osnabruck (thanks Airbnb) after riding down from Edinburgh to Hull, ferry from Hull to Rotterdam and then riding across to here (500 miles so far)
Key learnings so far:
- double check the expected check-in for the ferry and don't assume its 45 mins like the ferry to Ireland. I got to Hull later than expected due to torrential rain, the ferry car park was empty and someone shouted."You're very very late!!" Last up the ramp and on the ferry, plus first off!
- Passport control in Rotterdam involved them looking at the photo, then looking at me with my full face helmet on and visor down and going... yeah probably fine.
- My new gear isn't as waterproof as I had hoped given the drenching on the Friday. Stood around on the ferry leaving pools of water. Climbing into wet gear and then getting even wetter in the Netherlands wasn't great.
- The Tom Tom was well worth it. It's a bit random at times but it tells me the speed limit all the time in mph which helps cos I can't see the kmh markings on the speedo.
