1,100 miles .. time for a break

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

Quite a few miles done in the last few days. Left Osnabruck in the rain and quickly punched in my destination, Magdeburg.. or so I thought. Anyway after some torrential rain the route wound into the mountains with some excellent hairpins and sweeping bends. It was a Sunday and there were plenty of bikers out. Unfortunately I was riding to Marburg and not Magdeburg and so a 150 mile day turned into 340 mile day. Finally got to Magdeburg, checked in to my hotel, went up stairs and collapsed. Didn't bother unloading the bike.

The ride to Wroclaw was going fine, glorious sunshine, nice trip into Dresden, all good. Got into Poland, it started to rain and then a car transporter overturned blocking the autobahn (or whatever they are called in Poland). A few bikers, included myself rode between the cars/lorries until we got too a bridge and sheltered from the rain. After 2 hours waiting, we gave up and 5 of us rode the wrong way back through the now static traffic to the junction. We would have done it sooner but were concerned PC Plod might not be a big fan. Anyway after a bit of hesitation we decided to brazen it out and rode past the Police in the wrong direction, waved at them, then rode up the junction. All good.

Anyway too much rushing, time to get off the bike for a couple of days and do some sightseeing.

Hi Ed, hope you’ve dried out, and the weather improves. Going to Alastair and Paul’s for a meal, and a chat about your trip. How’s your Russian coming along comrade? Safe journey. Norrie and Bernice
